Oatmeal cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. margarine (or butter for moister cookies)
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3 c. oats

Step by step

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Beat margarine (or butter) and sugars until fluffy.
  • Beat in egg and vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and spices.
  • Combine and mix well.
  • Gently stir in oats.
  • Drop by rounded spoonful onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake 8 to 9 minutes for chewy cookies, 10 to 11 minutes for crisp cookies.
  • Cool one minute on sheet and then transfer to cooling rack.
  • Yields approximately 4 dozen cookies.
